patriarchy vs brahmanical patriarchy

Today, Takako was casually saying that Indian women work a lot in kitchen. Now they are doing much better - they have become Engineers and Doctors.

I didn't feel any pride in that. I immediately said Patriarchy. Takako was shocked and took a pause. I further mentioned - why not art?

I identified my bias - I was thinking about brahmanical patriarchy on the back of my mind. I am compelled to question this argument, what about girls becoming doctors and engineers is brahmanical or patriarchal?

Before I get to contemplate why I said that, I want to write the obvious reasoning to why I was wrong in saying that. Women becoming Engineers and Doctors is a great thing for feminism for these reasons - in this job market, Engineering and Doctor pays well, so women will be financially stable and previously women were not allowed to enter these professions, now they will not just enter but thrive, be independent from family and make their own choices in life based on these freedoms.

After watching a couple videos being distracted from writing this essay, I learned that - yeah, above I wrote that it was wrong for me to say patriarchy when feminism was winning, but my bias is coming from - every single Indian has to become an Engineer first and then an MBA to be able to live in a city and have financial and social independence. This is because of brahmanical patriarchy. It makes you want to amass wealth, be greedy, and at the same time, not find righteousness.
